About Sharon
Sharon E. Hawks, MS, RD, LDN, CDE
is the founder and director of the Nutrition and Diabetes Education Center (NADEC). Sharon received a Bachelor of Science from Michigan State University and a Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics from Central Michigan University. She is a Certified Diabetes Educator and worked for several years as the Director of Diabetes Education and Training for Civista Medical Center in Waldorf, Maryland. Sharon developed her teaching skills as an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Nursing, at Bowie State University. She served her country as a Major, in the D.C. Air National Guard for many years before honorably retiring. While serving her country, she received extensive education in the areas of human relations and diversity. This training enables her to provide effective nutrition counseling to individuals of different ethic, cultural and racial backgrounds.
Sharon has been a consulting dietitian for many years and conducts seminars and workshops for numerous government, religious and civic organizations. Her skills include diabetes education, training and program development, individual nutrition counseling, health promotion program development and total body wellness (mind/body). Her work is often featured on radio and television.
She is certified by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America and volunteers her time at her local church instructing fitness and wellness classes. She takes much pride in her physical health and trains every year to run in the Army Ten-miler race. She has also completed two marathons (26.2 miles)!
Sharon's goal is to educate, motivate and inspire individuals to make lifelong changes to improve their overall health. Her motto is “You can’t do better until you know better, but once you know better you are required to do better.”
Sharon takes much pride in keeping a healthy and loving home. She loves to prepare quick and tasty meals for her family and she grows her own garden with an array of vegetables and herbs. She is married to her devoted husband Dale, and has two sons, Preston and Malcolm.
